Fall Fund Raiser:
Organizing details will be
discussed prior to the Sept. 11 event at
the next scheduled Town Committee
meeting Sat., August 14th.
As many members as possible
are asked to attend that meeting.
Facebook:
The question of whether an
endorsement on the Dem. Town Committee’s Facebook page signifies to Facebook
“friends” that the Committee as a whole is endorsing that candidate or that
event. It was stated by Kevin that
people understand, regarding the culture of Facebook, that it’s a public forum
and is open to anyone’s posting as long as it’s appropriate and legal.
However, the Committee members
present voted that anyone who makes a political endorsement on our Facebook page
must make it clear that it’s their endorsement and not the Committee’s.
Scholarship and Yard Sale:
Many thanks to the yard sale committee chaired by Donna McGee, Agnes
McCann and Susan Kent for their hard work in putting the sale together.
Many other Committee members performed a variety of tasks to support the
yard sale including: Chartis T., Pat L., Judith C., Peter P. Ned T, and Gail C.
A letter was sent to the
Mariner from Kevin thanking all who donated and purchased items,
as well as thanking all who volunteered
to help. Congratulations to all for
a fine job; over $700. was the profit this year!
Congratulations as well to
the recipient of this year’s scholarship, James Earle.
James is a member of the National Honor Society, Vice-President of his
class, active in several school organizations and is a community volunteer.
Thanks to Betsy Connolly and her scholarship committee for researching
the scholarship applications and nominating a worthy recipient.
Financial Update:
Pat Laugelle will be retiring
from her post as treasurer. She has
spent many years in the position of treasurer and secretary prior to that.
Many thanks to her for her dedication to the Committee.
Peter Pescatore was
nominated and elected to the position of treasurer for the remainder of Pat’s
term.
Pat reported that the
Balance in the Committee’s account is $8,853.87.
Two-hundred has been donated to the Paul Pratt Library for their movie
license. One thousand dollars is
owed to last year’s scholarship recipient.
It was noted that a large
part of the Committee’s balance consisted of the original scholarship donation
by the Walsh Family to the Committee. Donna asked that the amounts taken from
the original Walsh Family donation to supplement the proceeds from the yard
sales be accounted for separately.
It was also asked whether the original Walsh Family donation should be in
a separate account.
South. Shore Democratic Caucus:
The Caucus will be setting up an office to support the general election.
More will be discussed at a future meeting.
Also, the Caucus will be sponsoring a forum at

will be the principle participants in the forum.
