Cohasset Democratic Town Committee
Meeting -August 14, 2010
Members Present:
Donna McGee, Marge Charles, Pat Laugelle, Virginia Najmi, Ed Lappen,
Helene Leib, Sally Sisson, Agnes McCann, Helene Leib, Kevin McCarthy, Gail
Collins, Marylou Clark
Fall Fund Raiser:
It was voted to change the date of the Fall fund- raiser at
the home of the Leib-Lappens to October 23rd.
Planners for the fund -raiser are: Theresa Pulhemus, Sally Sisson, Susan
Kent, Betsy Connolly, Ed Lappen, Helene Leib. The silent auction committee
members are: Agnes McCann, Gail Collins and Donna McGee.
A budget
of $2,000 was authorized for fund- raiser
expenses by vote of members present.
Sally will communicate fund- raiser needs to Treasurer Peter Pescatore.
Fund Raiser Invitations:
Donna and Sally will develop
an invitation to the fund raiser which will also iterate the functions of the
Coh Democratic Town Committee. As
well as inviting folks to the event, invitees will be encouraged to join the
Committee in it’s various activities.
Margy will pursue getting a disc from town hall with the list of Cohasset
registered Democrats.
Treasurers Report:
The total of funds in the
Committee treasury is $7, 679. The
scholarship fund amounts to $5,262 leaving $2,387 in the Committee’s general
fund. Peter will send reminders to
those nineteen members who are in arrears.
Membership:
There are five slots for new
members that are open which if filled would bring the total membership to the
allowed 35 members. Current members
are encouraged to seek additional folks to join the Committee.
Virginal Najmi was
nominated and voted to re-join the Cohasset Democratic Town Committee.
Welcome Ginny!
A list of
members currently on the Committee will be obtained by Gail Collins from
the Town Clerk’s Office and at the Sept. meeting membership will be updated if
necessary.
Election Activities:
Primary elections for state
and Federal offices will be held on Sept 14th.
A “stand out committee”
will be organized by Judith Chute for sign-holding for the November election.
Pat, Ginny and Gail will help with stand outs.
More information will follow
as time draws near as many folks will be needed, especially
for some of the more hotly contested rases.
Donna McGee has signs
available for supporters of
District Attorney Keating running for Congressman of the 10th
District.
Peter Pescatore was
nominated and voted to be the third member of our Committee acting as
representative to the South Shore Democratic Caucus.
The current officers of the
Democratic Town Committee, Kevin McCarthy, Chairman, Peter Pescatore, Treasurer
and Gail Collins, Secretary were nominated and re-elected to serve a two year
term.
Sally Sisson was nominated
and elected to serve as Vice Chair of the Committee for the same term.
Ned Tebbetts will remain as
the affirmative action coordinator.
A debate will be held at
Scituate High School on Monday, August 30 at 7:00P
between the two Democratic candidates, Cong. Robert O’Leary and District
Attorney Keating, both running for
Congressman of the 10th Congressional District.
Peter and Gail will
help with set-up for the debate at 6:00P
Movie Night:
The next “movie night” will be
on Sept 17 and will feature the 1930’s Depression era film, “Our Daily Bread.”
This is a “collection of rarely seen short films about the Depression
mirroring the (then) new social consciousness that helped pull the U.S. out of
despair and ruin.”
The next meeting of the
Cohasset Democratic Town Committee will be Saturday, Sept. 11th.
