Meeting minutes, May 7, 2011

 

Members Present:  Ned Tebbetts, Ginny Najmi, Peter Pescatore, Gail Collins, Agnes McCann, Chartis Tebbetts, Mary Lou Clark, Betsy Connolly, Kevin McCarthy

 

Scholarship Yard Sale:  Help is needed organizing items on Thursday and manning the yard sale on Friday and Sat.  Please call Donna at 383-9114 or Ginny at 781-923-1335 if you can help. 

Donations of items are still needed!!

Ginny asked that folks donate items by Wed. if possible and hopes all will stop by to purchase a treasured item. 

 

Voter Outreach:  Agnes has created printed material for the Yard Sale which can be adapted and distributed for a variety of CDTC events.  These printed materials will be utilized to advertise an event, promote our goals, and recruit supporters and volunteers and possibly new members.

Agnes suggested that our by-laws be available in some form for distribution at appropriate events along with information on our activities. 

Agnes, as the membership chairwoman, will be contacting current members as to interest in remaining on the Committee; particularly since our slate of members will be up for election in the next election cycle.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Peter reported that there is still a number of Committee members who have been reminded twice by e-mail regarding dues.

There is $1917 in the general fund and $3,283. in the scholarship fund.

 

Education Forum: The education forum is scheduled for May 31 at 7:00 at the library.  Panelists will be Betsy Connolly, a Cohasset resident who is an educator and administrator in Hingham and Linda Snowdale, School Committee member.  They will discuss the financial picture for Cohasset given the financial restraints of a decrease in state funds to cities and towns for education.

 Betsy, as chair of the scholarship committee, reported that there were eight applicants for scholarship and that the selection of the recipient was being narrowed down.  The scholarship will be presented at CHS on Class Night, June 2.

Movie Night:  The next feature on May 20 at 7:00 will be Fair Game, the story of the outing of CIA spy Valerie Plame by an employee of the Bush Administration.

 

Additional DTC Members:  There are five positions available for membership on the Committee.  Kevin suggests that a personal, one to one conversation with a person who you think would be an effective member of the Committee may be one of the best ways to interest someone to join the Committee.

 

Food Pantry Drive:  There will be a food drive at Shaw’s on May 21 from 9:00 to 1:00.  The following folks have volunteered to help:

Ginny, Chartis, Gail          9:00 to 11:00a.

Kevin, Agnes, Peter          11:00 to 1:00P

Other volunteers are welcome.  Please call Gail at 383-9789. 

 

The next regular meeting will be held in August 6th at 9:00a at the library.

In response to Kevin’s poll of members regarding a possible better time to meet, two future meetings will be held on Monday evening at 7:00 as a trial; possibly Sept. and Oct.
